Kenneth Mims, M.Ed. , Superintendent of Schools
Kenneth Mims was named chief executive officer and superintendent of Science Prep Academy in May, 2017. At that time he was serving concurrently as a classroom lead teacher and principle.
Mr. Mims co-founded Science Prep Academy in 2015. He has traveled extensively nationally and abroad promoting STEM education, and workforce preparation for all students. Under Mr. Mims’ leadership, Science Prep Academy has earned a reputation as one of the most innovative and beneficial college and career education models for Autistic students.
Mr. Mims calls education the most important issue facing the nation. He is a commissioner on the Phoenix Youth and Education Commission. Mr. Mims has earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from Hampton University and a master’s degree in science education from Georgia State University. Mr. Mims is currently a 2019 Albert Einstein Distinguished Fellow. He is a 2012 Marshall Memorial Fellow and 2014 National Hope Street Group Teacher Fellow.
Rosetta Hicks Ed.S., Campus Director
Ms. Hicks is the Campus Director at the South Mountain location. Ms. Hicks and her team are responsible for facilitating the academic success and emotional well-being of every student. Her team also seeks to provide appropriate extra-curricular activities that complement Science Prep Academy's program and reflects a wide variety of STEM interests.
Ms. Hicks believes in the mission of Science Prep Academy and wants to support the Autistic workforce and their transition into adulthood. She provides thoughtful leadership and tools to teachers and communicates with parents to form cooperative relationships. Ms Hicks is fully invested in helping students reach their individual goals. Driven to meet the special needs of students in the community,
Ms. Hicks became a founding member of the first charter school in Arizona that focuses on the educational needs of children with autism and has over six years of school administration experience. She is a certified Arizona speech therapist and has earned an Educational Specialist degree from Grand Canyon University, master’s degree in Rehabilitation Administration and Services and a bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders and Sciences from Southern Illinois University.
Jessica Strouth, Lead Teacher & STEM Curriculum Chair
Mrs. Strouth teaches Science, Math and STEM Club and is the Chair of Curriculum. She originally began her career as an engineer. She received her Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia University in 2006. She moved to the valley from Minnesota in 2008. After discovering the teaching opportunities in Phoenix, she refocused her career in education. Jessica has six years of teaching experience and has worked primarily with students with special needs. She completed her Master’s in Education Technology in 2018, and has made it her goal to inspire students and share her passion for science, math, and engineering. Her dream is to inspire students to seek careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Jessica lives in Chandler with her sister and her two dogs.
Shawn Bodtmann, Success Coach & Lead Fitness Instructor
Mr. Bodtmann is upper school Success Coach and school Get Fit Instructor. He is a former student-athlete at the University of Maine, studied Kinesiology and Physical Education. In 2012, he suffered a series of concussion that required him to stop playing football. Shawn has shifted his passion from playing the game of football to being an inspiration to youth by being an example of someone who has been able to overcome obstacles to live a healthy and balanced life.
