Denise Amiot, Campus Director
Ms. Amiot has an educational career that spans over 35 years teaching exceptional students, kindergarten through post high school age. She has also taught at the university level for twelve years, working with students who desire a career in teaching.
She is certified in Arizona as an Administrator and Special Needs instructor, K-12. She has been a Doctoral student at Walden University in the field of Leadership and Curriculum, completed certification work in Administration at Xavier University, and a Masters in Special Education at the University of Cincinnati. Her Bachelor’s degree in Science of Education was completed at Edgecliff College in Cincinnati as well.
Ms. Amiot is committed to working with all students in assisting them to believe in themselves, to see their fullest potential in school and beyond. Ms. Amiot encourages students to become active learners by providing opportunities to acquire skills to become productive citizens in a vastly changing society. Through close collaboration and a communicative partnership, she looks forward to building a positive relationship with students, families, and staff at Science Prep Academy.
Jessica Strouth, STEM Curriculum Chair & Instructor
Mrs. Strouth teaches STEM Courses including Mathematics, Science, and Coding and is the Director of our STEM Curriculum. She originally began her career as an engineer. She received her Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia University in 2006. She moved to the valley from Minnesota in 2008. After discovering the teaching opportunities in Phoenix, she refocused her career in education. Jessica has eight years of teaching experience and has worked primarily with students with special needs. She completed her Master’s in Education Technology at Arizona State University, and her bachelor' s degree in Bioengineering from Columbia University. Jessica has made it her goal to inspire students and share her passion for science, math, and engineering. Her dream is to inspire students to seek careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Jessica lives in Chandler with her sister and her two dogs.
Josh Burnett, Physical Education Instructor & Success Coach
Mr. Burnett is a graduate of the University of Arizona. He graduated with his Bachelors of Arts in Psychology in 2021 and has been working with children with Autism as a Registered Behavior Technician for the past three years. Mr. Burnett is a native Arizonan who calls Casa Grande his home. His passion for working with young people comes from his time coaching youth
basketball and high school football while he was in college.
Mr. Burnett believes that each and every child is unique in their own way and it takes compassionate and motivated influences to
amplify their strengths. This is his first year in what hopes to be a prosperous and rewarding career in Education and he is looking forward to building lifelong relationships with the students,
staff, and families at Science Prep Academy. His hobbies include practicing yoga, trying new sushi restaurants and watching sports. His favorite sports teams are the Los Angeles Lakers
and the Las Vegas Raiders.
Exie Weathers, Positive Behavior Support Chair & Physical Education Instructor
Mr. Weathers teaches the Get Fit Course and is a Success Coach. He has started his career at Science Prep Academy in 2019. He was awarded a full scholarship to play basketball while
completing his Bachelors Degree from Western New Mexico University where he studied Early childhood education and Coaching. Prior to Science Prep Academy he has experience working with children from middle school through high school at the Nolan Richardson Center in El Paso TX. He also has experience Coaching basketball from the high school varsity level through elementary school.
Through sports Mr. Weathers has gained his passion to help kids succeed and overcome life’s everyday challenges to become a positive, successful, confident and productive member of society.
Kenneth Mims, M.Ed., Founder & Advisor
Mr. Mims has been a professional STEM educator for over twenty years, this includes teaching courses in robotics, computer programing, and physical science. Mr. Mims founded Science Prep Academy, after connecting the dots on the characteristics of autistic people and the characteristics of people in the physics and computer science work force. Specializing in STEM educational solutions he has traveled the world extensively promoting diversity and inclusion in STEM education and workforce development.
Mr. Mims obtained a B.S. in physics from Hampton University and completed his Master’s degree in Science Education at Georgia State University. He was elected to the Winslow Township (NJ) school board at the age of 24. Mr. Mims is a Marshall Memorial Fellow, National Hope Street Group Teacher Fellow, and 2019 Albert Einstein Fellow (DOE).
